Dixie's First Time Out

We know from "raising" Jack that having a pet is like raising a small child.  You have to be firm when they are doing something wrong and reward them when they do something extra good.

Today, Dixie must have the devil in her because she's been in all kinds of things that she shouldn't be.  We have told her "NO" a dozen times when she attempts to chew electrical cords.  She will run away from the cord when we yell, but return to it when she thinks we aren't paying attention.

Today, while Tony was at church, I was in the office on the computer.  Dixie squeezed behind my rocking chair and started to chew on the cord that was on the floor.  I yelled at her and picked her up and moved her and she went right back to the cord.  Four times we did the chew-yell-move-chew routine and I finally realized that she wasn't taking me seriously so I picked her up and put her in her cage.   OH BOY, she did not like that.  She barked and whined and whimpered and bit the cage.  I kept telling her to be quiet because she was in time out.  When she finally settled down I let her out and she came over and sat on my feet.  She hasn't been near the cord since.   So, I guess tough love got results!

We did have some fun earlier in the day.  We were in the backyard playing with her ball.  She did alot of laying on the grass and chewing sticks, but it was nice to be outside.   She has no idea that bath time is coming up.  I'm guessing she'll be doing more barking!

Here she is chewing on the bars of the cage trying to get out

Notice that she is standing on her back feet and holding on to the cage with one of her paws.  This was her pitiful look while she was in time out.

Her favorite place to be--Tony's lap!

The good life!
