I had yesterday and today off and we really packed a lot into both days. Yesterday, we went back to the beach. I didn't take my camera...and, of course, I should have. There were birds overhead diving for fish, boats, beautiful clouds and just a million things I could have photographed. Live and learn.
After the beach we stopped at a wine bar and then came home and had a nice dinner. Today was "activity" day. We started our day on the porch with our fruit and cream and then headed to the driving range. I haven't picked up my golf clubs in more than a year and you could sure tell by looking at me. I have always had a problem with my swing. I hesitate on the downswing and stop the swing when the club is shoulder high--I don't go all the way around like you are supposed to. When I first started to golf, I thought that the stroke had something to do with my lack of follow through. With my somewhat weak lift side, it made sense that I was stopping short.... but, the right side is the "power" side when it comes to swinging a club, so that theory quickly went out the window. I'm just not good at golf.
We were never athletic growing up. I was really good at street badminton, but that was about it. My mother didn't believe that girls/women should be athletic or sweat. We learned to "sit nice like a lady" (and sometimes I have problems with that.....), so trying golf later in my life wasn't easy. Just once in my life, I want to hit a ball like Tiger Woods. Just one, but exactly like Tiger. I want to hear that solid "thwack!!" as the club meets the ball. I want to watch the ball go sailing high into the sky and I want to say, "Oh, look, it's on the green, right by the pin." But, much like Dixie when she stands up her hind feet and paws at the air, saying "I want, I want..." I don't think that's going to happen. I will put golf lessons on my list of things to do after I retire and maybe then, I will at least not drag the clubs in the dirt when I'm trying to make contact with the ball.
After lunch, we took Dixie to tour a Doggie Bed and Bath Spa. That's a fancy name for a doggie day care center. We decided we needed to have a fall back plan in case we needed to have someone babysit Dixie on short notice. It's a nice place--they separate the big dogs from the small ones and you can rent "suites" that have a dog bed and color TV. Dixie seemed OK with it. She was a bit taken aback when the other dogs saw her and all rushed to the glass to bark and wag their tails. At that point, she hid behind the lady giving us the tour. I was concerned that there were so many dogs, but supposedly, there is someone with them at all times and, if we wanted, we could specify that Dixie spend her day in a suite and not intermingled with the rest of the pack.
After that, we went to the Fitness Center. I have to do something to get some activity in my life. My blood pressure is up and I have no energy. I sit at home, I sit at work, so I made my line in the sand and started out with 15 minutes on a treadmill. I burned 65 calories and "walked" .69 of a mile. It felt good. I have to make the Fitness Center part of my morning routine instead of Dr. Phil and computer games.
Tonight is pizza night and then I'm back at work for the next several days. I have really enjoyed these two days off.
Check out my "swing" versus Tony's.....I have lots of work to do.
